About Retta
Retta Leaphart is a theatre artist from Helena, MT who does spell theatre with an "re" at the end, but only because that's the way she grew up doing it. Retta currently lives in Brooklyn where she makes puppets and hatches plans for future Thursdays, aka rehearsals. She enjoys a good taste of the outdoors, and in high school was almost voted "Most Athletic," but that was a joke. Retta holds a BA in Acting, Directing and English Literature from Middlebury College and an MFA in Theatre from Sarah Lawrence College. She now teaches for The New Victory Theater (that's how they spell it) and the Brooklyn Arts Council, and is excited to add her name to the roster of faculty at Sitka Fine Arts Camp this summer in Alaska! Retta's latest project, Black Acre, starring the ladies of You Can Really Run plus a few fantastic others, was seen at St. Ann's Warehouse as part of Labapalooza (it was called Far from the Tree then) and more recently as part of the Voice4Vision Festival at Theater for the New City. Currently, Retta is working with Trusty Sidekick Theater Company to develop innovative theater for young audiences.
